HOME IS….?

Spain, Hull, London and Sheffield. They say you leave a piece of yourself whenever you live somewhere.

MOST UNFORGETTABLE LINGERIE MOMENT GOOD OR BAD?

In an unplanned passing I had met the mum of the guy I was dating. The following day I went into Ann Summers to buy lingerie and as I approached the counter, lingerie in hand, I looked up and there she was. His mum was the manager of Ann Summers. I was mortified.

WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU DO ON A WORKING DAY? DO YOU HAVE ANY RITUALS?

Coffee and a chapter of whatever book I’m reading.

HAD YOU ALWAYS ASPIRED TO DO YOUR OWN THING?

There’s a saying: ‘There are two kinds of people in this world. There are lions and there are lambs. Life is all about figuring out which kind of person you are.’ For years I wanted to be lamb. Having been different in every environment I found myself in growing up I yearned to fit in. But I think what I really wanted was acceptance and once I learned to accept myself, I realised that I was a lion all along. I’m brave and I’m fierce, I wasn’t made to be subtle. To me doing my own thing means being my unapologetic self, emotionally and mentally free from the opinions and expectations of others.

AT THE MOMENT YOU ARE?

Returning to work, training 6 days a week, doing my masters, making some adult commitments and setting up my own business.

1 BEAUTY PRODUCT YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IS?

 No7 Foundation

WHERE WAS YOUR LAST HOLIDAY?

Me and a few friends managed to get away for a short, post lockdown all-inclusive holiday to Crete. I’m a morning person so I woke up early most days to go and watch the sunrise at the beach. It was the perfect little getaway before the stress of returning to normality kicked-in.

WHAT DO YOU NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT?

Lip balm!

FAVOURITE BOOK?

Currently I’d have to say Women Don’t Owe You Pretty by Florence Given. But my all-time favourite has to be Laura Bates’ Everyday Sexism which was the inspiration for my undergraduate research dissertation: ‘Patriarchal Attitudes and Gender Inequality: A Perpetuating Cycle of Everyday Sexism?’

WHO DO YOU CALL WHEN YOU WANT TO HAVE FUN?

I won’t name name’s but I feel very fortunate to have some wonderful friends who are always up for having some fun. Being an athlete while working and studying can be very all consuming, having fun quickly falls low down the priority list. So when I do get some down-time I know I can rely on my close friends to be on hand!

THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF…

Common sense was more common.

Jeff Bezoz ended poverty.

More women held higher positions of power.

LAST PLAY YOU SAW…

Motown the Musical in London.

EARLIEST LONDON MEMORY…

A trip with my dad when I was 8 years old. We stayed at a family friends penthouse by the London Eye, visited all the attractions and of course went to see a show in the West End which I believe was We Will Rock You. I fell in love with the city immediately and dreamt of the day I’d live there. I did eventually move to South London for college, not quite the luxurious central London penthouse I had in mind.

IF YOU COULD WORK WITH ANYONE WHO WOULD IT BE?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She is everything I aspire to be, and I would LOVE to learn from her. She is the kind of role model I want my nieces and future children to look up too.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?

Empowering other women to unapologetically love the shit out of themselves.

FAVOURITE PODCAST?

I listen to Legal Theory Podcasts. I don’t think anyone wants to know about that haha.

WHAT YOU LISTENING TO ON SPOTIFY, ANY GOOD PLAYLISTS WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT?

My Spotify is an amalgamation of all my personalities. At the moment Funkadelic music is my go-to, particularly the new psychedelic soul sounds of Tame Impala and Childish Gambino’s album ‘Awaken, My Love!’
