Beija Babe Backstage: Sonja

Beija Babe Backstage: Sonja

HOME IS….?

where the heart is. Although I grew up in Hamburg, Germany I was always driven to go to other places, explore other cities, countries and cultures. I have lived in Frankfurt, Berlin and New York but London has become my home away from home for almost six years now. I cannot see myself leaving anytime. It can be a scary and loud place but there is so much inspiration and variety that the city has to offer that it is easy to feel at home. I can be truly myself here, no matter the fashion, hair colour or mood.

MOST UNFORGETTABLE LINGERIE MOMENT GOOD OR BAD?

I don’t think I have had really bad or good experiences. Ever since I was 16 I always wanted a boyfriend and kept buying nice underwear for that special moment that never came. It eventually did but not in that sense (it just wasn’t special), and then I just started buying nice lingerie for myself and if the situation came along I would wear it on a date.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT?

My main goal at the moment at work is to progress and work my way up. I love my job but I also love having my website (sillifortwo.com) which serves as my creative outlet as my job is very numbers and excel based. I love creating content for my Instagram and making it interesting and accessible to girls and women.

HAD YOU ALWAYS ASPIRED TO DO YOUR OWN THING?

Yes, to some extent. I just cannot imagine being married to a job that is not my own project so I want to create my own so it doesn’t feel like a job but a life project/a  purpose of helping other women feel comfortable in themselves and stop worrying about scales, scars and stripes that are just normal. This Beija shoot is my first step in that direction and it also helped me see me as my true self, confident and sexy and a woman that doesn’t fit in the supermodel beauty standard.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST EXTRAVAGANCE?

My Anya Hindmarch 'Tony the Tiger’ bag. It’s the perfect impersonation of me: colourful, you can’t oversee it and fun.

AT THE MOMENT YOU ARE?

Happy. It took me 29 years to get here and there is still a lot more to come and strive for but I am finally in a good place after a lot of ups and downs.

WHO DO YOU CALL WHEN YOU WANT TO HAVE FUN?

My favourite Irish ex-work Husband.

THE STRANGEST THING IN YOUR HANDBAG IS?

That thingy you can use to open so you can change you iPhone sim card.

FAVOURITE BOOK?

Anything German author Frank Berzbach wrote. His books are the perfect blend of religious influences and beliefs from across the world, philosophic impacts and daily rituals with a hint of irony.

THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF…

Trump wasn’t president, Brexit wouldn’t happen and ice cream had no calories.

MOST ROMANTIC THING SOMEONE’S DONE FOR YOU?

My boyfriend gave me his old camera (Fujifilm X-E2) for my birthday when we had just dated for about 6 months and I think it meant a lot more than he would ever be able to express in words.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?

My website. It used to be a Wordpress blog and I changed to Squarespace, started a YouTube channel (thanks, Webster) and just started to really focus on making an effort and treating it like investment but I love it so it doesn’t feel like work.
