Push-Up vs Plunge

Push - Up vs Plunge

What is a Plunge Bra?

A plunge bra is a style of bra that can be identified by the cut of its cup. As the name suggests, the cups plunge to a low centre wire allowing for a more revealing look. However, ample coverage is still provided at the side and top corners of the cup ensuring appropriate support and security (i.e. you won’t feel like you’re about to spill out!).

Plunge bras can come in many varieties. They can be moulded or soft cups, wired or non-wired, racy & lacy or everyday. The level of plunge can differ as well; for example, you can have a deep plunge bra that will have little to no rise in centre wire, or a U plunge bra that plunges below the underbust to create the deepest of plunges

What is a Push Up Bra?

A push up bra is identified by the effect it gives as opposed to any cut and style notions. That is to say, a push up bra can be a plunge bra, or it could be a demi cup, or a balconette bra- it is the effect it has on the look of the breasts that sets it apart. As the name suggests, a push up bra enhances, and pushes the breasts up and together to create an emphasised cleavage.

When to Wear a Plunge Bra?

Plunge bras are great for low necklines. If you have a particular top or dress that has a plunge shape, it makes sense to also go for a plunge bra! A plunge bra ensures you are still receiving the support and coverage you require, whilst not having to worry about your bra showing. Bare shoulders and a low neckline? No problem, a plunge strapless bra is a great option for minimal coverage with maximum support. My favorite is the Cleo Koko Strapless Plunge.

Plunge bras also work well if you are a classic teardrop shape (think heavier at the middle and bottom of your breasts). A plunge bra with soft, stretchy cups is ideal for this shape as it creates a smooth flush fit against your chest. Bras like the Forecast, Zephyr, Icon, and Tracks, within Beija’s Y range are all ideal for a well-fitting plunge bra.

When to Wear a Push Up Bra?

Push up bras are perfect for when you are after that enhanced cleavage look. Push up bras range from the subtle to the extreme, and like plunges, can be found in many forms. Due to the structure of push up bras and their intended effect, they will tend to work well on the vast majority of breast shapes. Therefore, no matter your shape, when you are after the ultimate boobage look, a push bra is your best friend!
